The state met its goal of reaching 1.5 million electric vehicles sold in California two years ahead of schedule, with nearly $2 billion in incentives distributed to Californians to help make the transition more affordable.

As announced this Friday by the governor Gavin Newsom, who recalled that in 2012, then-Governor Jerry Brown set a goal of reaching that level of sales by 2025.

This year, 21 percent of all new cars sold in California have been ZEVs, while nationally, the state accounted for 40 percent of all such vehicle sales.
