World receives 2021 in the midst of a peak for COVID-19 

Different countries around the world welcomed 2021 with fireworks displays, but with empty streets and few celebrations, due to restrictions imposed by States, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebrations were held without crowds amid fears of a new, more contagious strain of the coronavirus that has hit the UK and Germany the most but has been detected in other countries, including the US.

2020, a year marked by this new disease, ended with more than 83.1 million new cases worldwide, as well as 1.8 million deaths.

United Kingdom and European Union reach historic Brexit agreement

After months of arduous negotiations, the United Kingdom and the European Union have reached an agreement on Brexit, which is beneficial for both parties and will serve to regulate trade and security relations in the future.

It is worth noting that December 31 was the deadline set for the formal consummation of Brexit, as a result of a referendum organized in 2016, where 52 percent of voters in the United Kingdom decided that the nation should separate from the European bloc.
