Chris Sturken is running for a seat on the Redwood City Council.

With the support of members of the Assembly and the mayor herself, Chris Sturken is running for a seat on the Redwood City Council, after announcing his run on Tuesday to keep his hometown a safe, livable and affordable community.

“I am thrilled to announce that I am running for Redwood City Council District 2 where I have lived downtown and now call home,” Sturken said in a letter to Redwood City residents.

Her priorities, she said, are the District's priorities: maintaining a safe and vibrant downtown, ending homelessness and creating more affordable housing.

“Because of my experience and passion for Redwood City supporting residents of all ages, I have earned the support of Mayor Giselle Hale, Assembly Members Kevin Mullin and Marc Berman, Supervisor Warren Slocum and local leaders to keep Redwood City a safe, livable and affordable community for all residents,” she added.

And, she said, District 2 is the beating heart of Redwood City, so if she gets the Council seat, her top priority “will be to keep Downtown, Centennial and Mt. Carmel clean, safe and vibrant.”

Community service is her passion, Sturken said. “I was first called to serve as an organizer and advocate, where I fought to provide relocation assistance, allow ADUs or “granny flats” for family members, and secure deeply affordable apartments for our community’s most vulnerable residents.”

He also served on the City's Transportation Advisory Committee, where he generated assessments and promoted solutions to alleviate traffic congestion while seeking to make city streets safer for bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers alike.

Sturken currently works for a local nonprofit affordable housing organization that manages affordable housing across the peninsula and facilitates an innovative home-sharing program, and will be looking to improve such programs.

“These problems will not be solved overnight. Nor will they be solved by the Council alone. Engaging directly with you, our neighbours, is the best way to address our most pressing challenges,” he stressed.

Finally, he referred to being a consensus builder whose leadership will be guided by the values of “respect, collaboration and the belief that every resident has something to offer our incredible community.”

It is worth noting that recently, Redwood City Mayor Giselle Hale announced that she would run for re-election to a Council seat.
