Telesur journalist denied entry to Honduras

The Telesur correspondent's rejection comes in the context of the upcoming 2021 general elections

Journalist Adriana Sivori from the Venezuelan channel Telesur, who traveled to cover the Honduran general elections on November 28, told that country’s UNETV network that she was denied entry at the Tegucigalpa airport, where immigration officials took her to a site for an interview in which they asked her for the same information she had already declared on the forms and the same questions she had previously filled out: “where would she stay during her stay, where she came from, the name and phone number of the contacts she had.” In addition, the journalist said that they made her sign a document to confirm that the information was correct and after a brief wait, she was told that she did not have authorization to enter the country.

The reporter said that the only explanation she has is that the government did not want the election day to be covered and that there was no immigration reason to support this restriction. She said that for her the decision not to allow her entry had already been made because there was very little time between the agents leaving her waiting and informing her of the refusal.

The 2021 Honduran general elections will elect the president to replace Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado of the National Party who won in 2013, re-elected in 2017, and will also renew legislative and municipal representatives.
