San Mateo County has launched a call for proposals from residents to “Reimagine Flood Park” to improve the park.
An analysis conducted in 2015 of this space located in Menlo Park revealed the need to improve and replace part of the infrastructure of this space located near North Fair Oak, where for 86 years, the community of San Mateo County has been able to live together and enjoy various outdoor activities.
Now, in 2022, the time has come to launch this project, now called “Realize Flood Park.”
On Saturday, March 12, Casa Círculo Cultural held a consultation at its facilities in which the county parks department participated.
During this event, Casa Círculo Cultural screened a video titled “A day at the Park Activities” in which it showed some of the activities carried out by the Casa Círculo children during a visit to Flood Park.
The park's 2020 Landscape Plan was also reviewed with the community, and information stations and a survey were used to gather opinions on the community's needs for the park.
What improvements does the “Realize Flood Park” project include??
Some of the improvements that have been contemplated in this project are:
- Imaginative and adventurous play spaces that are accessible to people of all abilities.
- A restored baseball field and two new multi-purpose sports fields
- New meeting spaces and picnic areas
- Trails and demonstration gardens
- Use of the preserved adobe building in the center of the park for community purposes.
- Preservation of heritage trees and sowing of seeds for a more resilient and biodiverse landscape.
How to participate in the “Realize Flood Park” project?
Although improvements to this space are necessary and evident, there are members of the community who oppose their implementation, which is why everyone's participation is necessary.
For this reason, the San Mateo County Parks Department has made a survey available to all residents (in English and Spanish) in which they can not only support the project, but also contribute new ideas and share their comments and concerns about improving Flood Park.
