In a brief message on his social media, Rodolfo Hern\u00e1ndez, who was a candidate for the Colombian presidency on behalf of the League of Anti-Corruption Governors party, accepted his defeat in the race against his opponent Gustavo Petro, who this Sunday became the virtual president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"Colombians, today the majority of citizens who voted did so by choosing the other candidate. As I have repeatedly expressed, I accept the result as it should be if we want our institutions to be strong," he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a message lasting just over a minute, Hern\u00e1ndez expressed his hope that the decision taken by the citizens is the best and correct one for Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"I sincerely hope that this decision taken by the citizens will be beneficial for everyone and that Colombia will move towards the change that prevailed in the first round of voting."<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also wished the best to the now virtual president, Gustavo Petro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"I wish Dr. Gustavo Petro a good leadership of the country, that he is faithful to his speech against corruption and that he does not disappoint those who trusted him."<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, he thanked the Colombian people for having accepted his proposal, even though it was not the winning one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And with 99.79 percent of the tables counted after the election day this Sunday, June 9, the Gustavo Petro-Francia M\u00e1rquez formula obtained 50.48 percent of the votes of the electorate in its favor \u201211 million 274 thousand 343\u2012, while the duo generated by Rodolfo Hern\u00e1ndez and Marelen Castillo only registered 47.26 percent \u201210 million 554 thousand 561\u2012 of the votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
