Local public safety agencies throughout San Mateo County will participate in the 20th Annual Countywide Public Safety Memorial Service on Sunday, September 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have invited the community to this special annual commemoration to honor fallen law enforcement personnel, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Cunningham Memorial Chapel at Notre Dame de Namur University, located at 1500 Ralston Avenue in Belmont. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service will be nondenominational and will be followed by an informal reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This formal memorial is organized annually by Greg Da Cunha, deputy chief of the Redwood City Fire Department, whose personal interest in the effort stems from the loss of his friend and co-worker, Firefighter Matt Smith, who was killed in the line of duty in 2001. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This memorial tribute is a countywide way to recognize public safety professionals who have passed away and honor those who selflessly serve the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local public safety agencies, including police and fire departments, the California Highway Patrol, American Medical Response, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and other agencies will have representatives on hand to read the names of their fallen and retired members who passed away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the San Mateo County Chaplaincy will conduct the ceremony, while music will be provided by the Silicon Valley Pipe Band of Saratoga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
