Make sure to pack some water and food in case you get stuck in your car,\u201d Ely suggested. \u201cAnd make sure you have a working flashlight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More intense weather is on the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning from Thursday night through early Friday morning, which would bring \u201cvery large waves of 20 to 30 feet and beach erosion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this weekend, the Weather Service warns: \u201cThe steady flow of moisture funneling out of the tropical Pacific will continue through Saturday and gradually expand into more central parts of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that in mind, the county has listed a number of helpful websites and phone numbers you may need in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evacuations are always possible. If you are ordered to evacuate, leave quickly. Here&#039;s what to pack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ready.gov\/kit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in an emergency kit.<\/a> \u2012Water, food and a flashlight are essential\u2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>download one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ready.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-02\/ready_checklist.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">printable version<\/a> to take with you to the store. Once you take a look at the basic items, consider what unique needs your family might have, such as pet or senior supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Road closures and travel advisories<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Caltrans offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/roads.dot.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">search tool<\/a> of state roads and highways. You may also call 1-800-427-7623 for current road conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The county provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/ceo\/county-storm-related-emergency-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a map and a search tool<\/a> with local dangerous conditions, including road closures and advisories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/parks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">County Parks website<\/a> for updates on when they are closed or reopening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Support and resources<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call 9-1-1 only in emergencies. An emergency is any serious medical problem \u2012 chest pain, seizures, bleeding\u2012, any type of fire \u2012 business, car, building\u2012, any life-threatening situation \u2012 fights, person with weapons\u2012 or to report crimes in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents needing non-emergency storm-related assistance should call 2-1-1. This line can connect residents in need of shelter with county resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The county also provides links to resources in the county&#039;s 20 cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandbag Pickup Locations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The county provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/ceo\/county-storm-related-emergency-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a map of the pickup locations<\/a> for residents of unincorporated areas, which includes most of the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>see this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/media\/141803\/download?inline=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">list of sandbag pick up locations for cities<\/a>, with contact information to confirm availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>emergency alerts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The county encourages all residents to enroll in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/ceo\/smc-alert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SMC Alert<\/a>, which sends emergency messages to emails, cell phones and other devices, and landlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alert types include fire, weather, major utility outages, and disaster notifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pacific Gas &amp; Electric has a <a href=\"https:\/\/pgealerts.alerts.pge.com\/outagecenter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blackout map and<\/a> It allows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pge.com\/en_US\/small-medium-business\/outages-and-power-reliablity\/sign-up-for-outage-alerts\/outage-alerts.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign up for alerts<\/a> by email, text message or phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fallen trees<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If branches become entangled in power lines, stay at least 25 feet away and call 9-1-1 immediately. Then call PG&amp;E at 1-800-743-5000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you live in a city, please contact your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/publicworks\/contact-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public works department<\/a> with questions or service requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The County Road Maintenance Division is responsible for emergency repairs and tree removal on the county&#039;s 315 miles of roads. Please contact the Public Works Department with questions or service requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Health and Safety Guidelines for Residents with Flooded Homes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The San Mateo County Health Department urges residents to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcgov.org\/ceo\/news\/expanded-health-safety-guidelines-residents-flooded-homes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to take precautions<\/a> to protect themselves and their families. Flood water may contain untreated sewage, animal waste, toxic substances, chemical compounds, fungi, bacteria and other harmful materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>school updates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The San Mateo County Office of Education provides updates on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcoe.org\/for-communities\/alert.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">school closures<\/a>.
