{"id":17333,"date":"2023-04-12T10:38:03","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T17:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/?p=17333"},"modified":"2023-04-12T11:04:29","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T18:04:29","slug":"san-mateo-county-launches-project-guardian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/en\/san-mateo-county-launches-project-guardian\/","title":{"rendered":"SM County Sheriff&#039;s Office launches &quot;Project Guardian&quot; to protect the most vulnerable"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"843\" height=\"689\" src=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian.jpeg 843w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian-300x245.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian-768x628.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian-15x12.jpeg 15w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian-150x123.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Proyecto-Guardian-696x569.jpeg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image: San Mateo County Sheriff&#039;s Office<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the framework of April as Autism Awareness Month, the sheriff <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SheriffCorpus22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christina Corpus<\/a>, announced the start of \u201cProject Guardian,\u201d a voluntary program where individuals, families or caregivers can register those who may be vulnerable, at risk, or have special needs with the San Mateo County Sheriff\u2019s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the program is primarily designed to raise awareness and provide tools for officers who interact with individuals with autism, the San Mateo County Sheriff&#039;s Office is confident that by expanding the reach, it will also be able to help those with a variety of needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants in Project Guardian are able to provide comprehensive information, including communication preferences, triggers, fears, hiding places, special concerns, and calming strategies along with a photograph, the agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sheriff&#039;s Office noted that it will create and maintain the information provided as confidential in its Project Guardian registry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&quot;Members of our office can access this secure information prior to, or during a contact so they are better equipped for interactions, can de-escalate situations, and are able to communicate more effectively with those who may require or prefer different styles and approaches,&quot; the authority said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After learning about this program, Sheriff Corpus believed in the significant impact it could have on the county, and made it an early priority in her campaign when running for her current position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am delighted that we are able to provide this vital service to some of our most vulnerable residents.
