Working closely with officers from the University of California, Berkeley Police Department, Palo Alto police arrest a suspect in a sexual assault at the California Avenue pedestrian underpass in Berkeley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, April 9, 2023, at approximately 2:49 p.m., the Palo Alto Police 24-Hour Dispatch Center received a call from a passerby who reported that he had discovered a woman in the California Avenue pedestrian underpass who stated that she had just been sexually assaulted there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, officers and detectives have been actively working on the case. The victim met with a sketch artist on April 10 and police released the suspicious sketch to the community that same afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police also shared information about the crime with Bay Area law enforcement agency partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the morning of April 11, detectives spoke with investigators from the University of California, Berkeley Police Department, who believed they had a possible suspect under observation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At approximately 12:40 p.m., UCPD officers arrested that suspect at Memorial Glade on the University of California, Berkeley campus. Palo Alto investigators responded to Berkeley and, after conducting additional follow-up investigation, arrested the suspect for sexual assault in Palo Alto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police booked Daniel Widyanto Condronimpuno, 34, of Palm Beach, Florida, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on several felony charges including attempted forcible rape, forcible sexual penetration, assault with intent to commit rape, forcible sexual battery, false imprisonment, felony assault, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, as well as misdemeanor preventing someone from calling for help with a wireless communication device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police are temporarily withholding the release of the suspect's booking photo as other law enforcement agencies still have active investigations involving this same suspect and premature release of his photo could hamper the investigation of their cases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the agency itself said that once it receives confirmation that the publication of its booking photo will not compromise other cases, it will be distributed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the Palo Alto Police<\/a> He thanked members of the community \u201cand beyond who assisted in our investigation by providing information following this assault and who shared information about the crime to help spread the word.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
