A child who was recovered from the ocean after being swept away by a wave at Martins Beach in Half Moon Bay has been identified as 5-year-old Yaretzi Biorato of Merced.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A child who was recovered from the ocean after being swept away by a wave at Martins Beach in Half Moon Bay last weekend was identified Wednesday by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office as 5-year-old Yaretzi Biorato of Merced.<\/span><\/p>\n

Biorato was initially misidentified by the coroner's office, which corrected the name on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The girl was swept away by a surprise wave on Saturday. Her 54-year-old grandfather disappeared into the ocean trying to find her and had not been found as of Wednesday, according to the coroner's office.<\/span><\/p>\n

The U.S. Coast Guard called off the search for the man after about 22 hours, after covering about 100 square miles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Biorato was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n

That day, the National Weather Service had warned of an increased risk from dangerous swells known as sneaker waves or sleeper waves, which are disproportionately large coastal waves.<\/span><\/p>\n
