{"id":24840,"date":"2024-07-24T08:48:15","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T15:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/?p=24840"},"modified":"2024-07-26T12:42:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T19:42:18","slug":"annual-festival-of-inclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/en\/annual-festival-of-inclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"San Mateo County celebrates disability community through Inclusion Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_24841\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24841\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24841 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion.png\" alt=\"Annual Inclusion Festival\" width=\"1280\" height=\"857\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion.png 1280w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-1024x686.png 1024w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-768x514.png 768w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-18x12.png 18w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-696x466.png 696w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/inclusion-1068x715.png 1068w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">San Mateo County residents are invited to celebrate the disability community at the fifth annual Inclusion Festival, a free day of food, fun and music aimed at connecting attendees with vital resources, providers and each other.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Listen to this note:<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-24840-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Viviana-4691197.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Viviana-4691197.mp3\">https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Viviana-4691197.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With 10.3 percent of San Mateo County&#039;s population living with a disability, it is more important than ever to celebrate this sector of the population and all of the contributions they make to the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, San Mateo County residents are invited to celebrate the disability community at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventcreate.com\/e\/smcinclusionfestival2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fifth Annual Inclusion Festival<\/a>, a free day of food, fun and music aimed at connecting attendees with vital resources, suppliers and each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The festival will take place this Thursday, July 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Red Morton Park, located at 1120 Roosevelt Ave. in Redwood City.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park includes Magical Bridge Playground, one of the first open, inclusive outdoor playgrounds in San Mateo County.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Angela Piazza, a longtime member of the County Commission on Disabilities, emphasized the importance of the festival&#039;s location.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe event will take place next to the Redwood City Magical Bridge Playground, a fully inclusive playground, reinforcing the message of barrier-free fun,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event originated in August 2018, when the commission first organized the Inclusion Festival as a way for the county community to engage and learn more about people with disabilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally located at Burton Park in San Carlos, the event received an outpouring of support and attracted over 400 people. In 2023, the festival moved to July to coincide with Disability Pride Month and the Americans with Disabilities Act, the first civil rights law protecting people with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe festival is a time for everyone to come together and celebrate members of our community with disabilities. Our mission is to support and connect all County residents, particularly those with disabilities, with available resources that will enrich their lives,\u201d said Board of Supervisors Chairman Warren Slocum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to hearing from Slocum, attendees will also be able to speak with 47 county department vendors, local representatives, disability agencies and nonprofit organizations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Informational booths will include Supervisors Ray Mueller and Noella Corzo, San Mateo County Jobs for Youth, the Department of Rehabilitation, San Mateo County Public Health, Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Victim Services Division, and HIP Housing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Inclusion Festival is an opportunity to \u201cconnect the disability community with resources they may not have known existed,\u201d said Andrew Eng, county liaison to the commission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The day also includes boxed lunches with sandwiches, chips, cookies and water that will be served by San Mateo County Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) to the first 450 attendees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not only will attendees be able to socialize, celebrate and support the disabled community in San Mateo County, but they will also be able to enjoy family-friendly music from a DJ while children receive and play with free balloons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis festival not only offers a day full of music, food and entertainment, but it is also a testament to the values of inclusion, especially during Disability Pride Month\u2026 It is a place where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the festivities and learn about the resources available in San Mateo County,\u201d Piazza said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/en\/disability-pride-month-2\/\">July declared \u201cDisability Pride Month 2024\u201d in California<\/a><\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Escucha esta nota: &nbsp; Con un 10.3 por ciento de la poblaci\u00f3n del condado de San Mateo viviendo con alguna discapacidad, hoy m\u00e1s que siempre es importante celebrar a este sector de la poblaci\u00f3n y todas sus aportaciones que hacen a la comunidad.
