The time has come to choose what direction the United States will take in the next 4 years, the choice of each citizen is valuable and important and that is why we tell you how, when and where to vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elections provide the opportunity to change the course of our nation and the communities in which we live. They are a fundamental element in exercising democracy because every thought and choice is valuable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The general elections will be held on November 5th and preparations are already underway; in order to cast your vote, it is necessary to register in advance at least 15 days before Election Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you are registered, you can vote in all state and local elections. Once you have registered, you will not have to register again unless you change your name, party preference, or address. If so, you can update your information online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do I need to register to vote?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of California (for information about voters who are in the military or overseas, please see Military or Overseas Voters),<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be 18 years of age or older on Election Day,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not currently be in state or federal prison for having been convicted of a felony (for more information, please see Right to Vote: Persons with Criminal Records), and<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not currently have been declared mentally incompetent to vote by a court (for more information, please see Right to Vote: Persons Subject to Custody).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How do I register to vote?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can visit the website <a href=\"https:\/\/registertovote.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">registertovote.ca.gov<\/a> or call the Secretary of State&#039;s voter service line at (800) 232-VOTA (8682).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voter registration applications are provided at many locations throughout the state, including county or city election offices, polling places, public libraries, post offices, local Department of Motor Vehicles offices, state and county social services offices, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are unsure of your voter registration, visit Check Your Voter Registration Status.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any registered voter in California can decide whether to vote at a polling place or vote by mail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you choose to vote by mail you will receive a ballot, counties will begin mailing ballots no later than 29 days before the election and they can be returned in the following ways:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> By mail: Your marked ballot must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by your county election official no later than seven days after Election Day.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In Person: You may deposit your marked ballot at your county election office, at a vote-by-mail ballot box, or at any polling place within the state before 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> At a drop box: Drop off your marked vote-by-mail ballot at an official drop box by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere will be 62 valid drop-off locations, people who call our office will be given the link to go in and download the resources at home, print them out and then send them in. So there is that option, they really make it very easy,\u201d said Jim Irizarry, County Clerk and Chief Deputy Elections Officer, during a meeting with community leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your election is in person, you must show up on the day of the vote, the polls are open in California from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the same is true for voting centers, they will be open until 10 days before election day and are similar to polling places, for more information, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.ca.gov\/voters-choice-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voterschoice.sos.<\/a> o\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ca.gov<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere are more ways, more days to vote, for example in San Mateo County, unlike other places in the state, we open 30 days, so 30 days before the election you can come.
