Photo: P360P<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Listen to this note:<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-25662-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Viviana-5190978.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Viviana-5190978.mp3\">https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Viviana-5190978.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors proclaimed Tuesday, September 17, as National Voter Registration Day, a reminder to check your registration status and an opportunity to spread the word about the importance of preparing for Election Day by registering to vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With 50 days to go until the general election in the United States, it is of utmost importance to remember that it only takes a few minutes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/covr.sos.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">register to vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or check your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/voterstatus.sos.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">registration status<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 438,000 San Mateo County residents are registered to vote, about 85 percent of the roughly 514,000 who are eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">California allows 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote before they are eligible to cast a ballot. If a teen you know will turn 18 before Election Day (November 5), they will be able to vote, but a pre-registration form is required. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.ca.gov\/elections\/pre-register-16-vote-18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online pre-registration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should be noted that you can find detailed information about local elections, candidates for public office, how to register to vote or check the status of your registration by clicking <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/smcacre.gov\/elections\/november-5-2024-presidential-general-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Translations are available in Spanish, Chinese and Filipino here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response, San Mateo County is partnering with numerous local organizations to spread the word about voting and raise awareness about voter registration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These include: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/my.lwv.org\/california\/south-san-mateo-county\/event\/turn-turn-out-civic-education-fair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turn Up &amp; Turn Out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Civic Education Fair, taking place on Saturday, September 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Menlo School (50 Valparaiso Ave., Atherton). An afternoon of democracy in action designed to inspire and educate the next generation of voters and civic leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Added to this is Tu Voto, Tu Futuro\/Your Vote, Your Future, which will take place on Monday, September 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/546144591403519\/?ref=newsfeed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online session<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Facebook about the importance of voting, how to register, the role of Latinos in the upcoming elections and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This event will be in Spanish, with English interpretation available.
