There is one week left until the general elections in the United States, where in addition to electing the new president, federal, state and local offices will be elected. Half Moon Bay is no exception and this coming November 5th they will decide who will be the next representatives of Districts 2 and 3.<\/span><\/p>\n

Districts 1, 4, and 5 will elect representatives in the 2026 election. Candidates are listed in the order in which they will appear on the ballot according to the state's random alphabetical drawing conducted on August 15, 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Candidates for District 2\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Patric Bo Jonsson<\/b><\/p>\n

A resident of Half Moon Bay for more than 35 years, he says he is deeply committed to preserving the waterfront while also seeking to address the town\u2019s most pressing issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

My record of accomplishments and community involvement includes serving on the Half Moon Bay Planning Commission for eight years, where I gained insight into the intricacies of city planning and development, as well as being recognized by a member of Congress for my community service to the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has served as president of the Amesport Landing Homeowners Association, and volunteered as a member of the Half Moon Bay Architectural Review Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has also served on the Measure E Oversight Committee and the Hatch Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

If elected to the City Council, he says he will prioritize addressing the financial shortfall, protecting the historic charm of downtown Half Moon Bay and increasing tourism revenue in ways that benefit the community, while working to maintain local control over land use projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Harvey Rarback<\/b><\/p>\n

In his <\/span>campaign site<\/span><\/a>Rarback notes that he has a doctorate in physics, which has allowed him to understand many of the technical problems facing the city, such as the need for more reliable electrical and communications infrastructure on the coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

In that regard, he notes that the Sierra Club has supported his environmental record, which includes his work to preserve open spaces, while as director of Peninsula Clean Energy, he has worked to provide electricity that is greener and more economical than that of PG&E.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The official is a CERT neighborhood leader and former elected director of the Coastside Fire Protection District Board.<\/span><\/p>\n

The candidate said he has facilitated the construction of decent and affordable housing for workers, as well as helping the homeless population by building the first shelter on the coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Harvey's priorities for his next term include addressing the city's fiscal deficit; protecting the coastal environment; implementing emergency medical care on the coast; improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable; ensuring reliable power, telephone and internet service; and advancing the proposed coastal tramway.<\/span><\/p>\n

Candidates for District 3<\/b><\/p>\n

Jimenez is bilingual in Spanish and English and holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State University (CSU) Chico. Throughout her career, she has worked in a variety of positions throughout the county.<\/span><\/p>\n

His involvement with the community has been extensive, working in a variety of sectors in positions including: teacher, juvenile corrections\/probation officer for the San Mateo County Juvenile Probation Department, and director of the Farmworker Program.<\/span><\/p>\n

The official says he is a champion of the Half Moon Bay community, with dedication and service well known among his constituents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joaquin Jimenez has worked with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department to provide a safe environment for families, while also actively engaging with the community, providing innovative ideas to build the economy, create equity, and promote sustainable environmental solutions to the issues facing our community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, the candidate for District 3 points out that he has strongly defended and supported the construction of housing in the community, especially for Agricultural Workers and Essential Workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jimenez is the founder of Rancho San Benito, a nonprofit organization that focuses primarily on farmworker upward mobility and environmental conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pablo Nagengast<\/b><\/p>\n

Nagengast says he wants to serve as a representative for District 3 on City Council because he is concerned about the future of this city and its direction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I assure you that I will listen to your concerns and your perspectives, and address the issues fairly. The candidate has worked for the city in various positions including public works director, city engineer, deputy city manager and interim city manager.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Its priorities include: financial responsibility, traffic safety, stormwater management, local control, and city policy procedures and processes.<\/span><\/p>\n
