The Redwood City Council voted 4-3 to draft ordinances restricting cooperation with U.S. immigration agencies in the face of Donald Trump's threats of mass raids.<\/span><\/p>\n

The representative's proposal Chris Sturken<\/a> He originally had a December date for a vote on his proposed ordinances, expressing the need to be ready before Donald Trump returned to the presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n

More than 50 people, from children to adults, expressed the fear that Trump's threats have generated in the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Children and young people expressed that, despite being American citizens, they are afraid of losing their parents, or that their friends' parents will be taken away by immigration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of all the comments, there were only two against, claiming that the city already has similar ordinances; in that sense, they kept putting it off and from deciding in December it was pushed to January and then to some day in the first quarter of next year.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the song says, they left it \u201cfor April or May.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rep. Eakin said she didn't see the need to rush things, preferring to do something slow but helpful, saying it was "sexy" to make quick decisions in support, but she doubted they would help. Mayor Jeff Gee and Rep. Howard expressed fear of losing federal resources if the decision was made not to cooperate with the federal government.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is being asked is neither new nor radical: Los Angeles City Council members all voted in favor of their city not cooperating with immigration agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, it was clear that three members of the City Council did not know how to use empathy and put aside their privileged position to put themselves in the shoes of the people who came to ask for support and protection, or they simply lacked the pants.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the end it was set for some date in the first quarter of next year.<\/span><\/p>\n
