{"id":26889,"date":"2024-12-07T15:17:16","date_gmt":"2024-12-07T22:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/?p=26889"},"modified":"2024-12-07T15:22:47","modified_gmt":"2024-12-07T22:22:47","slug":"remove-an-elected-sheriff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/en\/remove-an-elected-sheriff\/","title":{"rendered":"San Mateo County citizens will vote on whether to give supervisors the power to remove an elected sheriff"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_26890\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26890\" style=\"width: 663px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26890\" src=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-300x157.png\" alt=\"remove a sheriff\" width=\"663\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-1024x536.png 1024w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-768x402.png 768w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-18x9.png 18w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-150x79.png 150w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-696x364.png 696w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto-1068x559.png 1068w, https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/voto.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Voting on whether or not to give supervisors the power to remove an elected sheriff, San Mateo County voters will be asked to determine whether or not they favor amending the county charter to grant the Board of Supervisors authority through Dec. 31, 2028.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Special Election will be held on March 4, 2025, at which San Mateo County voters will be asked to determine whether or not they are in favor of amending the county charter to grant the Board of Supervisors authority until December 31, 2028, to remove an elected sheriff for cause.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persons interested in presenting an argument in the primary for or against this measure have until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10 to submit their arguments to the Division of Registration and Elections, 40 Tower Road, San Mateo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those who are for or against the measure will be required to provide a list of their supporters or opponents for printing on the official ballot to the Elections Officer when presenting primary arguments for or against the measure, said Mark Church, chief elections officer and county assessor, councilman and recorder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also stressed that the list of supporters or opponents should be taken from the signatory or from the text of the argument for or against the measure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following the closing of the period for the submission of primary arguments, a 10-calendar-day public review period for primary arguments will open until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDuring the 10-calendar-day public review period, the public has the opportunity to read and challenge the language of the primary arguments before they are published on the sample ballot and the county\u2019s official voter information pamphlet.
