Peninsula 360 Press [P360P] \/ Bay City News<\/strong><br>San Mateo County authorities said Wednesday they collected 425 firearms in a gun buyback operation in San Carlos last weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The county on Saturday held the first of five such events to be held through 2023, with $100 per pistol, shotgun or rifle and $200 per assault weapon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the 425 collected, six were assault weapons and three were &quot;ghost&quot; weapons that were untraceable, county officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved spending up to $208,000 in reserves from revenue raised through Measure K, a voter-approved 2016 extension of a half-cent sales tax.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The San Mateo County Sheriff&#039;s Office added $100,000 and the community group Citizens for a San Mateo County Gun Buyback contributed $67,000 to fund the events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0Two more gun buyback events will be held in 2022, according to the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You may be interested in: <a href=\"https:\/\/peninsula360press.com\/en\/san-mateo-security-authorities-are-called-upon-to-eliminate-racial-prejudices\/\">San Mateo Security Authorities Called Upon To Eliminate Racial Biases<\/a><\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Por Pamela Cruz.
