The U.S. Geological Survey recorded nearly 40 minor aftershocks during the 10 hours after a 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Humboldt County in Northern California midday Monday.

These aftershocks reached a magnitude between 2.5 and 4.5 within a 20-mile radius between 12:18 and 21:53.

The agency added that most of the aftershocks were centered inland, about five miles offshore between 25 and 30 miles south of Eureka.

The 6.2-magnitude quake was centered about 6 miles deep in the Pacific Ocean about 40 miles southwest of Eureka.

Several people reported feeling the earthquake, but no damage was reported.

Also, no tsunami warning was issued.
