During the month of August, the Redwood City Police Department confiscated three firearms from juveniles in three separate incidents. While there does not appear to be any connection between the incidents at this time, in total, six juveniles and three adults have been arrested or charged with charges stemming from illegal firearms possession.
Local authorities noted that August "was a busy month" in this regard, which has raised alerts.
And it is that, six firearms were seized for illegal possession or for being used in a crime. This includes firearms seized from minors.
Most of the firearms seized were stolen or unregistered "ghost guns" - a gun that lacks a serial number and is usually assembled by the user.
"The Redwood City Police Department wants to make this city as safe as possible for residents, business owners, and visitors," the authority said in a statement.
Given this, he called for keeping all firearms secured in a safe inside his residence, which would help prevent them from falling into the hands of unauthorized users. He also asked never to leave firearms in vehicles.
"If you see something, say something. Instruct your children and notify a responsible adult if they see an unsecured firearm," he requested.
The Police Department asked that if you have any information about illegally possessed firearms or firearms used in crimes, contact them for advice on any Redwood City case, so those interested can call the advice line at 650-780-7110.
