"Those of us who have to raise our voices and stay united are the ones who are affected": Maricela Ramos

Maricela Ramos
Listen to Constanza Mazzotti's voice note

Maricela likes to be called Mari, but commonly and for official acts, she introduces herself with her full name: Maricela Ramos and, as if it were part of her presentation, she adds: the ones who have to raise our voices and stay together are us. , the affected.

Originally from Puebla, Mexico, but based in East Palo Alto, California, for more than fifteen years she has dedicated her life to the defense of housing that protects migrant Latinos against the injustices that this sector of the population faces in USA.

Her interest in defending housing, she recounts for Peninsula 360 Press, began from a personal experience when, upon her arrival in the United States, she herself was the victim of one of the ills that most of our countrymen suffer from: the lack of documentation translated into Spanish.

This results, for a sector that often does not speak English, the loss of not only valuable information about government aid projects, but also being the target of injustice.

That is why, currently, Maricela, through volunteer help projects such as donation funds, food distribution, legal advice in Spanish, as well as translation and drafting of documents, through the Comité de Vecinos de East Palo Alto and Latinos United for a New America ?LUNA? calls for the Latino sector to support each other and stay together.

In this section of Bay Area Portraits you will find more details about the aid programs through which Maricela fights to help Latinos like her to have home security and to continue in the fight.

It should be noted that on August 27th one of the neighborhood assemblies will take place at 9:30 am, for which it is necessary to register in advance. To contact the organizers you can send a WhatsApp to the phones in the San Mateo area: 650 630 03 69 either 408 876 2603
