Donald Trump has chosen Dr. Mehmet Oz as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a cardiothoracic surgeon who has generated controversy for his approach to medicine, and who would now be in charge of health insurance coverage that protects more than 150 million Americans.

Known as "Dr. Oz," he has been criticized for selling miracle products and has a television career. He was chosen by Trump, who said: "I have known Dr. Oz for many years, and I am confident that he will fight to ensure that everyone in America receives the best possible health care, so that our country can be great and healthy again!"

During the previous Donald Trump administration in 2018, he was appointed to the Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition; in 2021, he ran for the Senate in the 2022 elections in Pennsylvania for the Democratic party, but in June 2022 he was the Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania and lost to Democratic candidate John Fetterman. It is noteworthy that he was the first Muslim candidate for the United States Senate.

"America is facing a health care crisis, and there may be no doctor more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to make America healthy again. He is a world-class physician, heart surgeon, inventor and communicator who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades. Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the disease-industrial complex and all the horrible chronic diseases it leaves in its wake," said Donald Trump.

Mehmet Cengiz Öz, born in 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio, was educated at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware, studied for a bachelor's degree in biology at Harvard University, and in 1986 earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Wharton School.

Oz rose to television fame with appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2004, Larry King Live, and other television programs.

This time, Donald Trump has entrusted the task of the American medical services to Dr. Oz.

Trump wrote in a statement: "Dr. Oz will be a leader in encouraging Disease Prevention, so that we get the best results in the world for every dollar we spend on healthcare in our Great Country. He will also cut waste and fraud within the most expensive Government Agency in our Country, which accounts for one-third of our Nation's healthcare spending, and one-quarter of our entire National Budget."

Under Dr. Mehmet Oz, a series of Republican-proposed changes to Medicaid coverage are expected, leaving communities uncertain about their health services.
