.

On May 6, authorities from various cities in the Bay Area carried out a firearms buy-back, where, thanks to the enthusiasm of residents, 264 firearms were collected.

At the event held in the parking lot of the North County Courthouse, located at 1050 Mission Road in South San Francisco, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., a total of 264 firearms were collected, including 9 assault weapons and 4 "ghost" weapons, which are untraceable.

The event was for the purpose of safely and anonymously repurchasing firearms that community members no longer needed or wanted.

"By participating in this event, you are helping to keep our communities safer by reducing the number of guns in circulation," said San Mateo County Sheriff,

The event was attended by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the South San Francisco Police Department, the San Bruno Police Department, the Daly City Police Department, the Colma Police Department, and the organization Ciudadanos for the San Mateo County Gun Buyback.

According to authorities, hundreds of people turned in weapons, and without asking questions were given $50 cash for non-functioning firearms, $100 cash for handguns, shotguns or rifles, and $200 cash for assault weapons and "ghost weapons"

An additional gun buyback event is planned for late 2023, in southern San Mateo County.

If you have any questions, you can contact the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Javier Acosta at 650-421-1243.
