East Palo Alto residents to receive state rental assistance

Starting this weekend and for the next three weekends, East Palo Alto residents will receive support from Youth United for Community Action (YUCA) to apply for state rental assistance.

The youth volunteers will be providing support over the next four weekends to all East Palo Alto residents who need or have applied for state rental assistance due to the economic hardship they are facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

YUCA Executive Director Ofelia Bello told P360P that over the past two years many California residents have applied for rental assistance due to the economic hardship caused by the pandemic.

"Tenants still have time to submit an application to the state, but they should do it as soon as possible because funds are running out," the activist stressed.

He added that those tenants who have already made an application, but have not heard any news for the last four weeks, need to approach the organizations or individuals who helped them make the application, as there may be outstanding or missing data.

"If you don't deal with those pending, it could put your application on inactive status, and that's what we don't want to happen," he said.

He also reminded that East Palo Alto residents will receive state rental assistance over the next four weekends, where YUCA youth will be on hand from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to assist all residents in need of support.

"We invite all East Palo Alto residents who have applied without a response or anyone who has not yet applied to come to one of these four weekends coming up; we will be there with volunteers to help review the status of your application and resolve any outstanding issues," he said.
