Redwood City to Host 12th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration

Redwood City to Host the 12th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration 2023

The Redwood City Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and Redwood City Internationall will host the 12th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration 2023 on the first Saturday of February.

Despite what has recently happened in Half Moon Bay, this celebration comes as a breath of fresh air, as it reminds us to celebrate life and a start to the lunar new year, this time ruled by the water rabbit.

The celebration will take place next Saturday, February 4 at the Courthouse Plaza, located at 2200 Broadway in Redwood City from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Schedule of activities of the celebration of the Lunar New Year.

City officials and staff will be joined by lion dancers, martial artists, taiko drummers and other live performances for this Year of the Rabbit celebration.

Plus, attendees will enjoy free admission to the San Mateo County Museum of History, where they'll find free arts and crafts for kids.

Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays in Asian heritage, often celebrated with large family gatherings, gift-giving, symbolic meals, and displays of festive decorations, all focused on bringing good luck for the New Year and celebrating the imminent arrival of spring.

2023, year of the rabbit

The Rabbit is the fourth of all the animals in the Chinese zodiac, and this year is ruled by the element of water.

Legend has it that the Rabbit was proud, even arrogant, of his speed, he was a neighbor of the Ox and always made fun of how slow he was.

One day, the Jade Emperor said that the order of the zodiac would be decided by how the animals arrived at his party. Rabbit set out at dawn, but when he got there, there were no other animals in sight. Thinking that he would obviously be the first, he went to the side and took a nap. However, when he woke up, three other animals had already arrived. One of them was the Ox that he had always looked down on.

The Rabbit sign belongs to those born in 2023, 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927, among others.

According to tradition, the lucky colors for this year are red, pink, purple, and blue; while the unlucky ones will be brown, gray, and white. In the case of lucky numbers, they speak of 3, 4, 9; and those who will not be so lucky will be 5 and 11.

The best compatibility of the Rabbit sign is with the Dog, Pig, and Goat, while those with whom it does not get along at all are with the Rooster, Dragon, and Rat.

The 12 animals run in sequence Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

If you were born during the Year of the Rabbit...

To strangers, the Rabbit's kindness can make them appear soft and weak. In truth, the Rabbit's calm personality belies his confidence and strength. They are constantly moving towards their goal, no matter what negativity others throw at them.

With their good reasoning skills and attention to detail, they are great scholars. They are socializers with an attractive aura. However, they find it difficult to open up to others and often resort to escapism.

A simple and routine life is not his style. Although they are conservative and careful in their actions, they need surprises from time to time to liven things up.
