United Against Hate Week kicks off in Redwood City with various activities

United Against Hate Week

This Monday the United Against Hate Week began in Redwood City, where, through various activities, a call to civic action is made to stop all those behaviors that are based on hatred, discrimination and racism, among others. ways to hurt anyone in the community.

“United Against Hate Week is a call to local civic action to stop implicit hate and bias that is a dangerous threat to the safety and civility of our neighborhoods, towns and cities,” the council noted.

Stand Up Against Hate Week grew out of a Stand Up Against Hate poster campaign created by Bay Area cities in response to white supremacist rallies in Berkeley and San Francisco in 2017.

Thus, at the Redwood City Public Library, events will be held that will strengthen the community on the matter, such is the case of "Digital Creators: United Against Hate", which will allow students of all ages and experience levels can cut and laser engrave a personalized wooden bookmark that celebrates tolerance and solidarity.

The event will take place this Wednesday, November 16, at the Downtown Library, located at 1044 Middlefield Road, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Don't miss the opportunity to support TransACTION Day of Change, an event that seeks to honor transgender lives lost due to hate crimes and be part of a positive change. This event will feature resource booths, an action wall, name reading, and close with a candlelight vigil. It will all take place on Friday, November 18 at Redwood City's Courthouse Square from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Ready for a lot of color? On Saturday, November 19, everyone is invited for “Storytime with drag artist Reina De Aztlan.”

The event featuring the Bay Area Drag Queen will take place at the Redwood City Public Library from 11:00 to 11:45.   

On Monday, sharp at 6:00 p.m., the Redwood City City Council will recognize Stand Up Against Hate week with a proclamation at the Board meeting to be held at 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, which is open to the public.

This same Monday, an inclusive communication workshop called "Identifying and Interrupting Microaggressions" will be held via Zoom, which will provide the opportunity to develop or deepen awareness about what microaggressions are and how we commit them unknowingly during interactions with others. .

It will also provide tangible communication techniques to interrupt microaggressions in the moment.

On Wednesday, November 16, WHY is hosting “Dreaming in Color: Trans Awareness Discussion and Workshop,” an event to learn about the transgender experience and what can be done to serve the transgender community.
