U.S. Soccer Talents are Migrants

Editorial staff. Peninsula 360 Press [P360P].

If there is one sport in which the United States has not excelled throughout history, it is soccer. The senior national team's record is based on titles in the North American and Caribbean zone, CONCACAF, where it has won the Gold Cup six times, a runner-up in the Confederations Cup in 2009 and a runner-up in the 1930 World Cup.

Today's big stars suggest that the U.S. will have too high a ceiling in the field of football, completely changing the dynamic that has generated throughout history the scope of the national team.

Who is considered the best in the history of the North American country is Landon Donovan. A stereotypical athlete with a winning mentality, offensive skills and great soccer generation.

The today retired 10 of US Soccer not only generated animosity on the field, but the white phenotypical characteristics, the discourse of supremacy that he handled throughout his career and the so representative nickname that marked him as "Captain America", contributed to infect generations of mentally solid players, but lacking in resources for the game.

Today, however, talent abounds in the U.S., the common denominator involves African-American migrants. Barcelona's recent signing, Sergiño Dest, has a Dutch mother and a father from Suriname, a Caribbean island. The club's right back is barely 20 years old and already stands out as one of the starters in Ronald Koeman's squad.

Another of the athletes that the Catalan team is considering to be part of its offensive revolution on the left wing is Konrad de la Fuente, who was born in Miami, Florida in 2001. Of Haitian parents, who are of Dominican Republic descent, the youngster moved to Spain at the age of 10 and, although he had the opportunity to wear the Iberian jersey, he preferred to represent the United States, where he has already made his debut with the senior national team.

One of the most promising players due to his historical past is Timothy Weah, son of the legendary African player, George Weah, who is also currently the president of his country, Liberia. The current player of Lille of France has skills as a center forward, has participated in 10 matches with the U.S. senior national team and has scored one goal. Weah Sr. is remembered as the only African player in history to win the Ballon d'Or, an individual award given annually to the world's best player.

Giovanni Alejandro Reyna is another talent with U.S. nationality, but originally from Durham, England. He currently plays as a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund of the German Bundesliga. His training took place mainly in New York and at the age of 15, in the 2017-2018 season, he was considered in the U-18 team of New York City FC where he contributed with 13 goals in 17 games.

Borussia Dortmund has approached him to join the German team, and his managers have assured that "we only consider bringing in young players from abroad when we are 100% sure that the player has the potential to play for the first team."

Christian Pulisic, of Croatian grandfather, represents the national team of the U.S. Currently, he is a player of Chelsea F. C., runner-up in the English championship. He was initially signed in Europe by Borussia Dortmund, where he played from 2016 to 2019. However, he was born and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania and began his career for the PA Classics and Harrisburg City Islanders, during his childhood and teenage years, respectively.

The talent of the U.S. squad promises to compete for important positions ahead of an atypical World Cup, to be played in another area where football did not figure until recently: Qatar 2022.
