Vilma Quispe, daughter of Marcos Quispe, participated with her father in the mobilization for peace on January 9, 2023, in Juliaca, Puno. When the police arrived, Vilma returned home and her father decided to stay. She never saw him alive again. “I waited, calling and calling and calling, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 7:00pm, 8:00pm, 9:00pm. There was no answer from my father. I was worried! At 10:00pm I made my last call. A doctor answered my father’s phone. He told me that my father was dead. He told me to go to the hospital to pick up his things, nothing else. I left my house in despair. When I arrived at the hospital, my father was there, dead.”

Like the families of other victims, Vilma demands justice for her father. She denounces that protesting is a crime.
