Restricted activities at Redwood City Hall all of February

Redwood City Local News

In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and preserve the ability to support workers, Redwood City Hall’s temporary closure for in-person services has been extended through February 27.

While COVID-19 cases have recently declined in San Mateo County, they are still extremely high.

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID has increased 133 percent in the past two weeks, while deaths across the county have also risen, local officials said in a statement.

In this regard, he noted that, throughout the state, cases are expected to decrease during February, but it will take most of the month to reach the level of infection that was seen in early December.

“I hope we can resume in-person services three days a week beginning Feb. 28,” said Melissa Stevenson Diaz, Redwood City Manager. “Naturally, we will re-evaluate whether it is necessary based on available data and guidance from health officials.”

He added that the city council will continue to strengthen strategies to protect the health of employees and the community.

Please note that for building and fire inspections, requests may include longer wait times due to staff impacts due to COVID-19.

In the case of libraries, they will not have more than 25 percent capacity during their current schedule for in-person services, in addition to other safety practices such as the use of masks and social distancing.

The use of the indoor public gym will also remain closed until the end of February and there will be no private rentals in any of the facilities, the city council stressed.

Additionally, he said that lunch programs have been moved outdoors or converted to pick-up service.

“All classes/programs we operate will continue with current indoor masking and small group enrollment requirements.”
