In a viral video circulating on social media, a Mexican man can be heard shouting “It’s worth it!” as he runs away from a giant wave that hit Ventura on the afternoon of Thursday, December 28, which left 8 people injured.

There are several videos showing the huge waves brought by a strong storm off the coast of California, which has left flooding in places like Santa Cruz and Marina.

In the latter two towns, residents were forced to temporarily evacuate due to the danger of waves and flooding that have left communities under water, forcing road closures.

The U.S. National Weather Service. warned residents along the San Francisco Bay Area coast to stay away from rocks, docks and other facilities, as waves could reach up to 40 feet in height in certain areas, it warned.

He also said that since rough beach conditions are expected to continue across the West Coast, precautionary measures should be taken.

In this regard, he urged people to stay informed about local conditions, never turn their backs on breaking waves, and leave enough distance when observing large waves.

The Ventura Police Department said a high surf warning is in effect in the area until 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29. 

All beaches from the Ventura Pier to Marina Park are closed due to high breaking waves and severe coastal flooding. “Avoid the Pierpont area and all beaches until further notice.”
