By Bay City News.

A child who was recovered from the ocean after being swept away by a wave at Martins Beach in Half Moon Bay last weekend was identified Wednesday by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office as 5-year-old Yaretzi Biorato of Merced.

Biorato was initially misidentified by the coroner's office, which corrected the name on Wednesday.

The girl was swept away by a surprise wave on Saturday. Her 54-year-old grandfather disappeared into the ocean trying to find her and had not been found as of Wednesday, according to the coroner's office.

The U.S. Coast Guard called off the search for the man after about 22 hours, after covering about 100 square miles.

Biorato was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

That day, the National Weather Service had warned of an increased risk from dangerous swells known as sneaker waves or sleeper waves, which are disproportionately large coastal waves.
