The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office arrested a man this Saturday morning on suspicion of attempted murder and rape.
The alleged attacker, Catalino Ortiz Perez, 35, of Redwood City, was also arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, according to deputies.
The arrest occurred Saturday at 1:30 a.m. when officers responded to a call in the 400 block of 4th Avenue in unincorporated San Mateo County for a report of a physical altercation.
De acuerdo con un comunicado, los agentes ubicaron a Ortiz Pérez en el área, y una víctima femenina con heridas visibles en el cuello fue encontrada dentro de una residencia.
Tanto Ortiz Pérez como la víctima, admitieron que estaban en una relación, y los investigadores se enteraron de que el presunto atacante intentó violar a la víctima, según la oficina del alguacil.
Durante el incidente, el sospechoso golpeó a la víctima varias veces en la cabeza con las manos, usó un cinturón para golpearla y luego se le subió encima y la estranguló colocándole las manos alrededor del cuello, dijeron los agentes.
