Santa Clara authorities warn of telephone scams where they impersonate police officers
Santa Clara County officials have issued an alert to residents over a growing number of phone scams involving fraudsters posing as members of the local police department.

In a statement, the Santa Clara Police Department said it continues to receive reports from community members about telephone scammers posing as police officers. 

In some cases, he said, scammers will falsify the exact number of a public safety department to disguise their identity and attempt to extort people by claiming there is an active arrest warrant. 

As a reminder, Santa Clara Police will never ask you for payment or money over the phone. 

Therefore, authorities requested that if you receive one of these phone calls, you hang up immediately and call the department directly at 408-615-4700.
