The family of Ramiro Reyes, a young man of Mexican origin living in Redwood City who was murdered on September 2 in Oakland, is seeking justice and clarification of the events, while continuing to raise funds to help with the expenses of the funeral service.
According to Ramiro Reyes, the father of the 22-year-old victim, his son went to an area in the city where there were three people who shot him in the early morning of September 2 in the 2600 block of 74rd Avenue. The young man was accompanied by Nayeli Mendoza, his friend, when everything happened.
“So we left, picked up a friend, and then the friend took us to an address where we arrived and when he parked, three people came out shooting,” recalled Nayeli, who told T48 Bay Area that when she heard the shots she decided to get out of the vehicle while Ramiro was still inside the car.
“And I just got off to tell them to please leave us alone, and they just hit me in the head and then my friend Ramiro told me to get on and then he ran away,” he said.
Ramiro was pronounced dead at the scene.
The murdered young man worked in construction and was the father of a two-year-old girl.
"He looked at life head on and with great courage. Those of us who knew him and loved him never tried to change him because with his jokes we knew that the moment he arrived, his laughter and his light filled us. And although his eyes were closed, he will always continue to fill us with light and laughter with his memories," says the account of GoFundMe which was opened to collect funds for the expenses incurred by the tragic event.
"In these difficult times for each one of us, we ask for your financial help to be able to support his father Ramiro Reyes, family and friends with the extra expenses. We know that there are things that are beyond our control and are not expected, so we thank each one of you in advance for your help, whether it be with something financial, or for the fact of supporting us morally in such difficult times," the publication highlights.
So far, the family has only raised $1,210 of the $15,000 requested.
