After Redwood City Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of El Camino Real on September 27 at approximately 10:43 p.m., the tragic loss of life is under investigation, but the incident has prompted Redwood City to speak out and address gun violence through proactive measures and strategic partnerships.

“The safety of our community is our top priority. We are deeply committed to addressing gun violence in all its forms and remain focused on prevention through coordinated efforts,” said Mayor Jeff Gee.

"Our message is clear: we will continue to employ all resources at our disposal to ensure that Redwood City remains a safe place for all residents," he stressed.

The city stressed that it works closely with local, state and federal agencies to address criminal activity, particularly in cases that may involve gangs.

These partnerships, the statement said, allow for the sharing of information, resources and expertise, ensuring that the Redwood City Police Department can respond quickly and effectively.

In this regard, he said that by collaborating with specialized task forces and regional agencies, the city is better equipped to investigate complex cases and prevent future incidents of violence.

Redwood City said tools like Flock security cameras have been invaluable in helping law enforcement identify suspects and solve cases. These automatic license plate reading systems, he said, provide crucial data in real time, allowing officers to track suspect vehicles involved in criminal activity and respond to threats.

In addition to their role in investigations, the city council pointed out that these cameras act as a deterrent, reducing opportunities for crime.

“Building strong relationships within our community is essential to improving public safety. We are committed to engaging with residents, listening to their concerns and providing resources that address the root causes of violence,” said Police Chief Kristina Bell.
