Guatemala is experiencing change after a long process of elections and constant attacks against the Semilla party to which Bernardo Arévalo belongs, who assumed the presidency of Guatemala after an extensive day of disagreements in Congress that caused a delay in the change of powers.
César Bernardo Arévalo de León becomes the president of Guatemala after a great social struggle and some controversies for several months; with an atmosphere of ?mission accomplished? where "hope is felt everywhere" the seizure of power was carried out, said the political scientist Mynor Alonso in a talk with Manuel Ortiz during the radio program Península 360 in collaboration with Marcos Gutiérrez from «Hecho en California".
The process of change of powers was carried out, highlighting the board of directors where one of the youngest deputies of Semilla, Samuel Pérez, 31 years old, managed to preside over the Congress of Guatemala, since he was in the conservative parties for a long time.
Legal resources continue to try to say that Semilla's victory was illegal, since they are still under investigation, however, this will have to be decided in the corresponding courts and tribunals at the time.
What is a fact is that Semilla, despite having only 23 votes, managed to ally itself with other parties and gather 93 votes that have allowed it, for the moment, to begin the appointment of a Board of Directors, and they are preparing to start legislating? added Mynor Alonso.
During the last process of receiving documents in the changes of powers, there was one more attempt at a "coup d'état," said the political scientist from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), explaining that the Board of Directors of the previous Congress requested extra requirements, at the same time that he began to consult before the courts if Semilla, being under investigation, could assume the new position.
?When the Board of Directors had to do a job that lasted a maximum of one hour, it had already taken three, that was when the Semilla party and the bench asked themselves, what is happening here? The Semilla party interrupted and asked that everything that had to be done, outside of the receipt of documents, be brought to the Plenary Session? Mynor explained.
This delay of approximately 10 hours made people lose their calm, so they came to Congress and broke the security circles that the police had to demand the corresponding process of transition of powers.
Finally, he commented that the first action that Bernardo Arevalo took was to visit the sit-in of the indigenous peoples who had been in front of the Public Ministry for days, to thank them for their support and remind them that they are an important piece for his government, so it is expected that this government maintains this closeness with the population, demonstrating that it is a different government and in favor of the Guatemalan people.
