Redwood City's premier fall event, Oktoberfest, has arrived downtown with the presentation of a fabulous traditional German atmosphere for the holiday that dates back to 1810.
Oktoberfest in Redwood City will feature more than 1,100 feet of "family-style" bench seating, lots of fun and merriment, music, dancing, contests, cold beer and other beverages, food, and more.
The event runs from Wednesday, September 21 through Sunday, September 25.
The event is from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Courthouse Square located at 2200 Broadway Street in Redwood City. Tickets range from $10 to $17 for minors and $16 to $27 for those 21 and older. This year, the event brings special VIP tables for 6 people, offered at $255.

Feel like traveling back in time? The Renaissance Faire is for you. Dating back more than 10 years, this event allows Bay Area residents or visitors to practice axe throwing, watch Shakespeare comedy, don period costumes and enjoy a trip back to Elizabethan times. The Northern California Renaissance Faire at Hollister, will be held every weekend through October 23.
The event, held in a glen at Casa de Fruta, recreates a village during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Attendees are encouraged to dress according to the theme, but even if you're not willing to don a corset or speak Old English, there should be more than enough to amuse you. Entertainment includes live music, jousting, dancing and refreshments.
The event is every weekend through October 23 at Casa De Fruta, located at 10 031 Pacheco Pass Hwy in Hollister. General admission tickets are $35 and children under 12 get in free. Not to be missed.

Ready to dance? This Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, the Portola Fest will take place, an event that will undoubtedly appeal to all those over 21 who want a musical dose of groups like Flume, Kaytranada, Jungle, Caribou, The Chemical Brothers, James Blake and M.I. A. among many others.
The show will take place rain or shine. The date is this weekend at Pier 80 in San Francisco. The cost per concert day is $199.95 plus tax, or $399.95 for both days. FoodieLand Night Market is a foodie-inspired, multicultural food and entertainment event held at the San Mateo County Event Center. With over 170 vendors, the festival offers a variety of food, games and incredible entertainment for the whole family.
The event which takes place at 1346 Saratoga Dr, in San Mateo County, will be held this weekend from 1pm to 10pm. Tickets are $7 and are available through eventbrite. Tickets will not be sold at the door, so we recommend purchasing in advance. Children under 5 years old do not pay admission and there is no access for pets.

Want to sweeten your ears? The San Francisco Symphony is ready for the fall season and after this Friday's opening gala, this Saturday, September 24, classical music lovers will be delighted with a program that includes pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Florence Price and the wonderful symphonic poem composed by Richard Strauss in 1896, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. All under the direction of conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.

The little ones have fun this weekend too. This Saturday join the Casa Círculo Cultural Youth Theater Group for an exciting adventure on the high seas. Watch tales of courage and cunning as brave children challenge scurvy scoundrels to sail under the Jolly Roger. Listen to merry sea shanties and play pirate games with Captain Cesario. Maybe he'll let you join his crew.

Starting this Sunday, September 25 through October 22, enjoy Lorenzo Cruz Sunu's art exhibit at the Redwood City Library.
The exhibition includes paintings that represent Cruz's unique painting style and technique. His colorful paintings of "backs" of Guatemalan women wearing traditional "huipiles" give the impression of a three-dimensional woven fabric rather than a two-dimensional painting.
The event is not to be missed. The event is this Sunday all day at the Redwood City Library, located at 1044 Middlefield Road. Admission is free.
