The city of Half Moon Bay celebrated the opening of the Opportunity Center of the Coastside (OCC), a state-of-the-art multi-service center that will support small businesses, job seekers and entrepreneurs throughout the Coast.
The event, which took place the night of April 4 at 637 Main St. in Half Moon Bay, was attended by officials, community leaders, representatives of organizations and residents.
“The OCC is an important investment in the future of our community,” said Half Moon Bay Mayor Joaquín Jiménez. “It is part of an ambitious vision that focuses on the long-term resilience of our local economy while creating economic opportunities for our diverse community in Half Moon Bay and throughout the coastal region.”
The more than 3,000 square foot facility will offer a variety of services in a convenient location, including:
- Career training, resume help, and personalized support
- Skill Development Classes
- Job preparation workshops, job placement services and career exploration.
- References to local works
- Small Business Training and Development Classes
- Support and mentoring for companies and entrepreneurs.
- Networking and support events
- Access to a multimedia studio with audiovisual recording and production capabilities
"The OCC represents the best that can happen when county, city and community leaders come together around shared goals and a plan of action," said Supervisor Ray Mueller.
"I commend the City for creating that action plan through the Coastal Recovery Initiative, which paved the way for a $2.5 million investment in the OCC by the County Board of Supervisors," he added.
Coastside Venture Studio, the first business incubator of its kind, is located in the OCC and will focus on developing entrepreneurship, generating innovation and fostering new industries and job opportunities, the city said in a statement.
Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center and JobTrain, two highly respected and experienced non-profit organizations, will also have dedicated staff working at the OCC.
“It has been a dream that our community has been developing for five years: to have a comprehensive business development center,” said Krystlyn Giedt, executive director of the Coastside Chamber. "Now that dream has become a reality and the Chamber is excited to call OCC home and provide on-site management of the incredible programs and services offered there," he noted.
