At least 50 Koi fish were stolen from the Jardín de la Amistad pond in San José, the city's department of parks, recreation and neighborhood services reported Wednesday, requesting help to figure out where they are.
The Department of Parks, Leisure and Neighborhood Services, said in a post on social networks that the theft of the colorful tent was reported to the San José police.
“We regret to inform our community that approximately 50 koi fish are missing from the Japanese Garden of Friendship. We have reported the stolen fish to the San José Police Department," they stated on their Twitter account.
"The city is heartbroken by the disappearance of these beautiful creatures. We will provide updates as we receive them," they posted.
The koi were housed in the Japanese Friendship Garden, built in 1965 as a symbol of everlasting friendship between the city of San Jose and its sister city of Okayama, Japan.
Anyone with information about the missing fish should report it to the non-emergency police number at (408) 277-8900.
