Parents were notified via text message of a shooting in Hoover Park on Friday afternoon, August 19.
The official version of the authorities is that, according to a witness who was at the scene, two adult men were apparently having an argument inside the center of the grass field, after which one of them pulled out a gun, pointed it at his adversary and fired several times, after which the subjects fled from the area where some children were with their parents.
After the first report to the authorities, staff at The Boys & Girls Club called the police to report that two of the windows in their vicinity were hit by bullets. The staff confirmed that no one was injured by the shots, but that one of their workers was injured by one of the broken window panes.
Meanwhile, Hoover Elementary School - which is south of the park and was still in operation - confined students and members of the school community.
Thirty officers, two K-9 units, four sergeants and two lieutenants from the Redwood City Police Department, San Mateo Sheriff's Office Department and San Mateo Police Department arrived on scene. In addition, they received support from the San Mateo County Gang Intelligence Unit.
Authorities escorted 300 students and 40 workers with their families after a perimeter was marked around Hoover Park, Hoover Elementary School and Boys & Girls Club to search for possible perpetrators.
Following which, an evidence search canvass collected several .9 mm ammunition casings in the center field of Hoover Park.
Likewise, the Redwood City Police Department advised the population to stay indoors and to be attentive to the warnings issued.
Later, a second shooting was reported and although there is no official information, residents claim that a person on board a vehicle opened fire for no apparent reason in front of The Forest High School Center - located at 2001 Spring Street in Redwood City - but hours later people continued with their recreational activities.
