Extreme heat in the Bay Area made it difficult to read temperatures this Sunday

By Tony Hicks. Bay City News.

Extreme heat in the Bay Area on Sunday made it difficult for the NWS to tell us exactly how hot it was.

The NWS said its KMUX radar was suffering from technical difficulties. Radar equipment on Mount Umunhum, near San José, had to be turned off to rest.

"Radar has been having issues due to hot weather so taking a break," the agency tweeted Sunday morning. "Our technicians are aware and working on a solution to the problem."

He also explained that he was able to turn the radar back on periodically on Sunday.

The agency tweeted at 6:33 p.m. that "Our radar will continue to be down tonight to take preventative action due to an air conditioning issue. Don't worry! We are monitoring offshore storms via satellite and our neighboring KDAX radar."

The temperature peaked in San Jose at 91 on Sunday. Although not that far into Livermore, temperatures reach 102 degrees. Stockton reached 109, a record for July 16.
