Melissa Stevenson Díaz announced the appointment of Yessika Castro as the new Municipal Secretary of Redwood City, after an open and competitive process. The position is a critical position for the city, serving as an election official, providing access to public records and providing support to the City Council, as well as serving as a member of the City Executive Team.

"After her excellent service as Assistant and Interim City Clerk, I am pleased to announce that Yessika Castro will be Redwood City's next City Clerk," said City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz. 

The official highlighted that Yessika has an exceptional professional career and is already effectively serving the Municipal Council, the City organization and the community. 

"She brings a deep service orientation and a highly collaborative spirit that complements our organizational focus on excellence," he stressed.

Castro succeeds former Redwood City City Clerk Pamela Aguilar, who retired in June 2023, and served as interim city clerk during the transition. 

Now City Clerk, she has more than 15 years of experience in local government, including her previous positions as Acting City Clerk and Deputy City Clerk for Redwood City and Deputy City Clerk for Fairfield. 

In those roles, he has consistently demonstrated the ability to handle various responsibilities, including preparing agenda packages, managing records, supporting elections, and implementing departmental projects.

The city detailed in a statement that Castro has extensive knowledge of state, federal and local statutes, such as the Government Code, the Election Code, the Brown Act, the Political Reform Act and the Public Records Act, in addition to several professional certifications, including Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) and California Professional Municipal Clerk (CPMC), as well as a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Development from the University of California, Davis.

Castro stressed. “I look forward to continuing to serve the city of Redwood City.”
