Jeff Schwob was named as the new director of Community Development in Redwood City, after a long selection process, where he will be responsible for guiding the physical growth, development and preservation of the city under the political direction of the City Council in conjunction with other city departments.
The department's efforts include current and advanced planning, building code and municipal code compliance, development services, historic review and environmental review.
"Serving as Interim Director of Community Development, Jeff has brought more than 30 years of invaluable experience from Bay Area cities to Redwood City," said City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz.
?I am delighted that he is our director permanently; “I know you will effectively lead and support our staff and connect well with a wide range of stakeholders,” he added.
According to City Hall, Jeff's career began in Alameda County, with progressively responsible experience in San Rafael, Santa Rosa and Fremont, where he also served as Director of Community Development.
Since 2018, the city said in a statement, he has continued his public service with interim assignments, including as interim director of Community Development for Walnut Creek and, more recently, holding the same position in Redwood City.
Additionally, he noted that, throughout his career, Jeff has earned widespread recognition for his ingenuity as a creative problem solver, his exceptional management skills, and his role as a mentor dedicated to nurturing talent and continuous improvement.
The city recognized that Schwob has particular strengths in urban planning, architectural design and public engagement, and extensive experience in all aspects of community development.
It should be noted that the new director of Community Development has a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Oregon.
“I look forward to continuing to serve the vibrant Redwood City community, leveraging my experience to guide and contribute to its growth and preservation,” Schwob noted.
