In the coming days, rain showers are expected in the north of the bay on Wednesday, more snow in the mountains.

Don't be completely fooled by more sun and slightly warmer temperatures on Monday, as rain chances will taper off in the Bay Area by Wednesday, with more snow coming to the Sierra.

Daytime highs are expected to be in the 50s to 60s on the coast and around the bay, and in the 60s inland. Overnight lows will mostly be in the 40s, with some areas reaching into the 50s.

Likewise, a cold front is expected to begin moving through Northern California on Wednesday. Skies will remain dry at least this Tuesday.

Unsettled conditions will then return on Wednesday and Thursday, with a chance of showers in the North Bay. Those showers could spread south and east throughout the day and will likely persist into Thursday.

The National Weather Service said two more systems will bring periods of moderate to heavy snow to the Sierra Wednesday night into Thursday, and again Friday into Saturday morning.

Forecasters say to be prepared for periods of mountain travel delays, snow-covered roads and chain checks, although the exact timing is uncertain.

The NWS said that between Wednesday and Saturday, the Sierra's highest peaks could see up to three feet of new snow, with another 1 to 2 feet above 5,500 feet.
