Donald Trump's return puts rights won through social struggles at risk: Anna Lee Mraz, sociologist

Trump puts rights at risk
Donald Trump puts at risk rights and laws that have been won through years of social struggle for different sectors of the national and international population.

Donald Trump has generated hate speech against various sectors of the population, people, genders and even regions. His speeches have revealed what he will do if he becomes president, putting at risk the laws and guarantees that have been won during years of social struggles.

And the fact is that Trump's policies are marked by xenophobia, misogyny, anti-immigrant and racist attitudes, in general, everything that has been achieved during the 20th century in the context of social struggles, said Dr. in sociology Anna Lee Mraz on the radio program Hecho en California in collaboration with Peninsula 360 Press.

"Trump said verbatim that he wants to revive the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to supposedly expel gang and cartel members, estimating that more than 2 million people will be deported," Mraz said.

Furthermore, I add, Donald Trump should be listened to when he warns of what he will do in power, showing the sectors that will be affected, since he has a policy of zero tolerance, separation of families, bad intentions against migrants and mass deportation, as well as speeches against the Latino and LGBTQ+ community.

"He has already said that he will reverse all federal policies that protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, he will militarize the country against the left, which means that anyone who is against his policies will be against him," he added.

In this regard, Manuel Ortiz, sociologist and journalist, commented that some politicians are based on the same social division, making people believe that "if you have a little more than the others, then perhaps you belong to a better economic status and can put yourself in the position of the wealthy, and obtain their benefits."

He added that the problems of democracy that have been seen in Latin America have a connection with the United States; what is happening today seems to make no sense, because going to the United States without documents, having an immigration status and then voting for Trump is buying into a rhetoric that takes away the humanity of a sector of the population.

"Migrants are actually everyone, but many people applaud Trump's speech because they don't know the history of the country, that's why millions of people open the dialogue without the slightest information about how the United States was built; it was built on migrants, now those migrants want to vote against migrants," Ortiz commented.

He also explained that there are more than 36 million Latinos eligible to vote, which could be a powerful mass that appeals to human respect and also to the community itself.

"What a great contradiction, voting for an anti-immigrant discourse in a country that has been built by migrants," said journalist Manuel Ortiz.

Anna Lee Mraz concluded that, with Trump, all those he considers to be his enemies will be in danger, and it could be anyone who is against or disagrees with his ideals, his thoughts and his ideology; there are also historical references and we must reflect, so we must go out and participate, and if we cannot vote, inform all those who plan to vote for Trump.
