Telesur correspondent's rejection comes against the backdrop of the upcoming 2021 general elections
Journalist Adriana Sivori of the Venezuelan channel Telesur, who travelled to cover the general elections in Honduras on 28 November, told the country's UNETV channel that she was denied entry at the Tegucigalpa airport, where immigration officials took her to a place to conduct an interview in which she was asked the same information she had already given on the forms and the same questions she had previously filled out: ? where she would be staying during her stay, where she was from, her name and telephone number, the contacts she had?where she would be staying during her stay, where she was from, the name and telephone number of her contacts? The journalist also said that she was asked to sign a document to corroborate that the information was correct and after a short wait, she was told that she did not have authorization to enter the country.
The reporter said that the only explanation she has is that the government did not want her to cover Election Day and that there was no immigration justification to back up the restriction and she assured that for her the decision to not allow her to enter was already made since the agents did not leave her waiting long enough to inform her of the refusal.
Honduras' 2021 general elections will elect the president to replace Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado of the National Party who won in 2013, re-elected in 2017, and will also renew legislative and municipal representatives.
