The primary election season in the country has kicked off. On June 7, they will be held in California, for which it is necessary to register and not miss the opportunity to raise your voice in the decisions that will mark the near future of the state.
Thus, on the first Tuesday in June, Californians will vote to determine the candidates who will appear on the November general election ballot for seats in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, state Assemblies, and the state Supreme Court, as well as the office of governor and municipal offices.
It should be noted that these elections are particularly special following the redistricting held in recent months, which was based on the 2020 Census.
How do I register to vote in the primary elections?
- By internetVoters can access to the California online portal to register, check their registration status or change their preferred party. Residents 16 and 17 years old you can pre-register to vote onlineBy doing so, they will be automatically enrolled upon reaching the age of 18.
- By mail and in personThe electorate can pick up a registration form at their county election office, at the library, or at the Department of Motor Vehicles offices or at the U.S. Post Office headquarters.
In this regard, residents who meet the following requirements will be eligible to apply will be automatically registered to vote while obtaining or renewing a driver's license or vehicle registrationunless they choose not to do so.

The deadline to register for the June 7 primary elections is May 23, and the deadline for the general elections is October 24.
Completed applications must be mailed or hand-delivered to your county elections office by these dates.
It should be noted that every active registered voter in California will receive a mail ballot for the June 7, 2022 primary election, so your county elections office will begin mailing by May 9.
It is important to know that if you miss the deadline, you can conditionally register - also known as same day registration - and vote in the your county election office, at the polling place.
Your ballot will be counted after your county elections office completes the voter registration verification process.
The primary ballot will include candidates for U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Comptroller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, State Board of Equalization Member, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, U.S. Representative in Congress, State Senator, State Assemblyman, as well as other local candidates.
There are two U.S. Senate races on this ballot, one for a 6-year term ending January 3, 2029; and one more for the remainder of the current term ending January 3, 2023.
A prepaid franchise vote-by-mail ballot is required to be returned, provided it is postmarked on or before Election Day and received by June 14, 2022, or in person in a secure mailbox, at a polling place or at your county elections office by 8 p.m. on June 7.
In-person polling places will offer voter registration, replacement ballots, accessible voting machines and translation assistance for those who need it.
Polling places open in all counties on May 28, 2022.
