Early this Friday morning, a man was arrested after breaking into the house of the president of the US House of Representatives in San Francisco, who managed to attack the husband of Nancy Pelosi, who was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
This was stated by Drew Hammill, Pelosi's spokesman, who explained that Paul Pelosi, the federal official's 82-year-old husband, was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to recover soon.
The attack was reported just before 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 2600 block of Broadway in the city's Pacific Heights neighborhood, San Francisco police said.
The House Speaker was in Washington, DC, in her protective gear at the time of the raid, according to the US Capitol Police, who are investigating the case along with San Francisco police and the FBI.
The name of the person arrested for the attack has not yet been revealed.
"The Spokesperson and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time," Hammill said in a statement.
San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott will hold a briefing at 9:30 a.m. at police headquarters to discuss the case.
For her part, the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, reported that President Joseph Biden has expressed his support for Pelosi after the attack on Paul.
"The President is praying for Paul Pelosi and all of President Pelosi's family. You called Speaker Pelosi this morning to express your support for her after this horrific attack. He is also glad that a full recovery is expected. The President continues to condemn all violence and calls for the family's desire for privacy to be respected," he said in a brief statement.
