Listen to this note:
San Mateo County will be in full swing in May, as it celebrates another year of being founded, so on Saturday, May 4, the county History Museum will celebrate the fourth annual San Mateo County Day. The theme for this year's birthday party is the 1940s.
In preparation for the event, the History Museum will sponsor a poster contest.
Posters featured will reflect life in San Mateo in the 1940s, from industry and inventions to fashion and local events.
The best-known events of the era relate to World War II, so the posters could depict wartime activities, including scrap metal drives, victory gardens, military training facilities, or industries such as shipyards. south of San Francisco.
Posters must be original and two-dimensional designs. All contest rules are available online at Historysmc.org/happy-san-mateo-county-day/. Posters must be submitted by April 16 at 4:00 p.m.
Posters will be judged based on their shape and composition, use of color, characterization of theme, historical accuracy, creativity and best conveyance of the message.
There will be three age categories: under 11 years old, 12 to 18 years old and adult participants. Prizes will be awarded in each category.
Winning posters will be featured in Happy San Mateo County Day advertising and on the cover of the event's activity book. If you have questions, please email education@historysmc.org.
