By Bay City News.

A second person was pronounced dead after being struck by Caltrain trains on Thursday, the transportation agency reported.

At approximately 12:10 p.m., a southbound train fatally struck a person on East Meadow Drive in Palo Alto.

There were approximately 68 passengers on board at the time of the accident, with no other injuries reported, traffic officials said.

As of 12:47 p.m., the Transit Police cleared the northbound track for train movement with speed restrictions of 20 mph.

This is the fourth Caltrain death of the year and the second in one day.

Earlier, Mountain View police began investigating the death of a pedestrian struck and killed by a Caltrain-operated southbound train Thursday in Mountain View.

The collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the Rengstorff Avenue intersection.

The final cause of death and identification of the victims will be determined by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner/Coroner's Office, according to a Caltrain news release.
